In 2015, Dr. Huang joined the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington as a Post-Doctoral researcher. In 2017, she was promoted to Assistant Research Scientist. Starting from her Ph.D. training, her research has mainly focused on the role of Fibroblast Growth Factors (FGFs) and their receptors (FGFRs) in the central nervous system. At IUB, Dr. Huang's accomplishments are evidenced by several original publications. She has published three first-author papers in The Journal of Neuroscience, Cerebral Cortex, and Scientific Reports, and one of these is a co-corresponding author paper. In collaboration with researchers at the IU School of Medicine, Dr, Huang is also a co-author on a paper (published in eLife) that describes the impact of neonatal opioid exposure on cortical development.
Dr. Huang has devoted much effort to establish advanced neural imaging techniques using confocal and two-photon microscopy to address various scientific questions. These include (1) Mapping excitatory and inhibitory inputs on the dendritic tree using the confocal microscope. (2) Acquisition of comprehensive axonal trajectories in mouse brain using the combination of clearing brain method and two-photon imaging. (3) Accessing the in vivo neuronal network activity by using two-photon microscopy. (4) Examining the physical interaction between neurons and astrocytes using two-photon-based Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) measurement.
